Future Trend Report 05 / 2021 - 02 - 02

Items that exist purely to be stamped with a high end logo are history. They were not outstanding in concept or design, just a standard item with an expensive logo as a selling point. The equivalent of purchasing a grocery-getter while being branded as a high end sports car. It simply gives the owner an illusion of wealth.

Louis Vuitton, Prada, Burberry, Chanel, carrying bags with big logos feels almost vulgaire in a time where wealth is uncertain and often criticized. Flashing your wealth like we used to do in The World Before has no significance behind it. Everyone knows your wealth couldn’t save you from the virus or it’s economical consequences that affects many industries, so there’s no more status connected to just being wealthy. We are all seeking more than that.

In The World After, products will exist and be purchased simply to be loved. The intentions behind the design, be they functional or aesthetic, will determine the value of a product. The inner value of what a product does to the consumer will be far more desirable than broadcasting an illusion to the outside world.

Sign of the time:

In the final hours of the Trump presidency, Melania Trump once again drew headlines about her outfit, her bag being the most discussed piece. As reports from fashion news outlets grew, so did the ‘reported’ price of the bag. From $ 20,000 to $ 45,000 to $ 70,000 to $ 90,000, a discussion about something trivial that seems very out of place if we stand back and realise what time we live in.
