Between different cultures the line between superstition and reality can often vary widely. One culture might fully accept something that another culture would declare nonsense. The line between spirituality and reality can be very thin.
Science moves on and things are added to the ‘scientific list’ of facts that were previously vague or unproven subjects. Science is not a fixed factor and moving along in the time subjects can flip between proven and unproven.
